Teeth Whitening at Park Royal Dental Clinic
Teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dental treatment in the UK, and for good reason β it is quick, non-invasive, and delivers results that genuinely transform your smile. At Park Royal Dental Clinic in NW10, we offer professional home whitening using custom-made trays and regulated, high-concentration whitening gel that delivers results far beyond anything available over the counter.
It is important to understand that only dentists can legally supply the concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide that deliver real results. The whitening products sold in supermarkets and by beauty salons contain concentrations too low to make a meaningful difference. When you whiten with us, you are using a clinically proven, dental-grade product β safely, effectively, and under professional supervision.

Who is teeth whitening suitable for?
Teeth whitening works best on natural tooth enamel stained by extrinsic factors β tea, coffee, red wine, certain foods, and smoking. Results are typically excellent for patients with yellow or brown-toned staining. Grey staining, often caused by old trauma, certain medications (tetracycline), or fluorosis, responds less predictably and we will discuss this honestly at your consultation.
Whitening does not work on existing restorations β crowns, veneers, and composite fillings will not change colour. If you have visible restorations in your smile, we will advise on how to plan whitening to achieve the most consistent result. Whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and is not suitable for children under 18.
Park Royal Dental difference
We use professional-grade whitening systems including Enlighten and Boutique, which are among the most effective home whitening systems available to dental practices in the UK. Your custom trays are made from precise impressions of your teeth, ensuring the gel stays exactly where it should and minimises contact with gums. We monitor your progress and provide top-up gel to help you maintain your shade for as long as possible.
At Park Royal Dental Clinic, we are transparent about what whitening can and cannot achieve. We will always show you your starting shade, discuss realistic expectations, and let you know if another treatment β such as composite bonding or veneers β might better achieve the result you are looking for.

Avoid tea, coffee, red wine, and dark-coloured foods for 48 hours after each whitening session β this is known as the "white diet" and significantly improves your results. Some patients experience temporary tooth sensitivity during treatment; a sensitivity toothpaste used throughout the process helps most people manage this comfortably. After completing your course, use your top-up gel every few months to maintain your shade.
Teeth Whitening FAQs
How many shades whiter will my teeth be?
Most patients achieve between 4 and 8 shades of improvement, though this varies considerably depending on the starting shade and the cause of discolouration. At your consultation we will give you an honest assessment of the results you can realistically expect.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes, when carried out under dental supervision using properly regulated products. The active ingredient β hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide β has been used safely in dentistry for decades. The risks are temporary sensitivity and very occasional mild gum irritation if the trays do not fit perfectly, which we address at your review appointment.
How long do the results last?
Results typically last 1β2 years depending on your diet and lifestyle. Tea, coffee, red wine, and smoking all accelerate re-staining. Top-up treatments β typically one or two nights every few months β help maintain your shade for much longer.
Can I whiten just the top teeth?
Yes. Some patients only whiten their upper teeth, particularly if the lower teeth are rarely visible. We make trays for whichever teeth you wish to treat.
I've seen cheap whitening treatments at beauty salons β are they safe?
Whitening by non-dentists is illegal in the UK if the products contain more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide. Products at the legal limit for non-dentists are too weak to make a meaningful difference. Illegal high-strength products used by untrained operators carry real risks of chemical burns to gums and soft tissues. We strongly recommend only using a GDC-registered dental practice for teeth whitening.
Will whitening work on my crowns or veneers?
No. Whitening only works on natural tooth enamel. If you have crowns, veneers, or fillings in visible areas, we will discuss how to plan your whitening to achieve the most consistent overall result.
