When you arrive for an emergency appointment, you will be seen promptly, diagnosed thoroughly (including X-rays where needed), given immediate pain relief, and provided with either definitive treatment or a clear plan for follow-up treatment.

How much does emergency dental care cost?
Emergency appointments at Park Royal Dental Clinic are £100 for new patients and £80 for registered patients — this covers the examination, diagnosis, and one intra-oral x-ray if required. Any treatment carried out at the appointment — such as a temporary filling (from £100), nerve dressing (from £150), or extraction — is charged additionally and discussed with you before proceeding. Children's emergency appointments are £75 for new patients and £60 for existing patients. We believe in complete transparency about costs, even in urgent situations.

Aftercare instructions depend entirely on the emergency treatment provided. We will always give you written aftercare instructions before you leave. If you have been prescribed antibiotics or pain relief, take the full course as directed. If swelling is worsening or you develop difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to your nearest hospital A&E immediately — this indicates the infection may be spreading.

My tooth has been knocked out — what should I do right now?
Time is critical. Pick up the tooth by the crown (the white part), not the root. If dirty, rinse gently with milk or saliva — do not scrub. Ideally, try to replace the tooth back into the socket. If not possible, store it in milk or between your cheek and gum. Call us immediately on 020 4568 7137. Reimplantation is most successful within 30 minutes.
I have a dental abscess — is it dangerous?
A dental abscess should always be treated as urgent. While most are manageable with dental treatment, a spreading infection can in rare cases become life-threatening. If you have facial swelling, fever, difficulty swallowing, or feel systemically unwell, go to A&E and call us. Otherwise, call us first thing for an emergency appointment.
Can I take painkillers before my appointment?
Yes. Over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen (if appropriate for you) can help manage pain before your appointment. Take them as directed on the packaging. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum next to a painful tooth — this can cause a chemical burn.
What if my crown comes off?
A lost crown is usually not an emergency unless you are in severe pain or the underlying tooth is very sensitive. You can temporarily recement a crown with dental cement available from pharmacies. Call us to arrange an appointment to recement it properly.
Do you see children for dental emergencies?
Yes. We see children for dental emergencies Monday to Friday. Please call us first — we will advise over the phone whether the situation requires immediate attendance and what to do in the meantime.
