Preventative Dentistry at Park Royal Dental Clinic

Preventative dentistry at Park Royal Dental Clinic is our commitment to helping every patient maintain a healthy mouth for life. This encompasses your regular check-ups and hygiene visits, but extends much further — conversations about your diet and lifestyle, the oral hygiene instruction we provide at every visit, the application of preventive treatments like fluoride and sealants, and the monitoring of early warning signs before they become problems requiring treatment.

We are located at Unit 5A, 9 Lakeside Drive, Park Royal, London NW10 7GL, serving patients from Acton, Ealing, Harlesden, Wembley, and across West London.

Who is preventative dentistry suitable for?

Preventative dentistry is for everyone — from the youngest patient at their first dental visit to the oldest member of a family maintaining their natural teeth into later life. Our approach is tailored to the individual: a child's preventative plan looks very different from an adult's, and an adult with a history of gum disease has different needs from one with a history of decay.

Why choose us

Park Royal Dental difference

Our approach is built around the understanding that patients who know why something matters are far more likely to do it. We explain the reasoning behind every recommendation — why flossing matters, why frequency of sugar intake is more important than amount, why the consistency of brushing matters as much as technique.

We also make it genuinely easy for patients to prioritise prevention — with early morning and Saturday appointments available, a welcoming environment, and a team that knows you by name.

How much does preventative dentistry cost?

Fissure Sealant (per tooth)
£40
Topical Fluoride Treatment
£20
Silver Diamine Fluoride Treatment
£150 per session

A check-up and hygiene visit twice a year at a combined cost of £135–£165 can prevent dental problems that would cost many times more to treat. We encourage all patients to see prevention as an investment, not an expense.

Aftercare advice

Preventative dentistry has no aftercare in the traditional sense — it is the ongoing process of maintaining your oral health. Between appointments, we ask patients to brush for two minutes twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste, clean between teeth once daily, limit sugary food and drink to mealtimes, and attend their scheduled recall appointments.

Common Questions

Preventative Dentistry FAQs

What is the most important preventative habit?

If we had to choose one, it would be consistent interdental cleaning — flossing or using interdental brushes once daily. Gum disease and the majority of cavities start in the contact areas between teeth, which a toothbrush cannot reach.

How often should I attend for preventative care?

Most patients benefit from a check-up and hygiene appointment every 6 months. Those with a history of gum disease or high decay risk may benefit from quarterly hygiene visits. We assess and recommend the right interval at your check-up.

Is an electric toothbrush better?

The evidence consistently shows that electric toothbrushes (particularly oscillating-rotating types) remove more plaque than manual brushing for the average patient. However, a manual brush used well beats an electric brush used poorly.
