Tooth Extraction at Park Royal Dental Clinic

Extracting a tooth is always the last resort at Park Royal Dental Clinic. We exhaust every possible option to save a tooth before recommending removal. But when a tooth is beyond saving — severely decayed, badly fractured, affected by advanced bone loss, or impacted — extraction is the most appropriate treatment to relieve pain, eliminate infection, and protect surrounding teeth.

Our extractions are carried out under effective local anaesthesia, with care taken to minimise trauma to the surrounding tissues. For anxious patients, we offer conscious sedation to make the experience relaxed and completely manageable. We plan tooth replacement at the same time as the extraction so you always have a pathway forward.

Is this right for me?

Who is tooth extraction suitable for?

Extractions are needed for teeth with irreparable decay or fractures, teeth with severe bone loss from advanced gum disease, teeth causing acute infection that cannot be managed with root canal treatment, impacted wisdom teeth causing recurrent infections, and teeth that need removing as part of orthodontic treatment to create space.

Wisdom tooth removal is one of the most common oral surgical procedures we carry out. Most can be removed under local anaesthetic in the practice.

Why choose us

Park Royal Dental difference

We take extraction radiographs as standard — we never remove a tooth without first understanding its root anatomy on X-ray. This allows us to anticipate complications, plan the appropriate technique, and reduce the risk of root fracture. We also provide full written post-operative care instructions and a follow-up call the next day for all surgical procedures.

After your treatment

Aftercare advice

For the first 24 hours: bite on the gauze pack for 30–60 minutes, avoid hot food and drink, do not rinse vigorously, do not smoke, and avoid strenuous activity. From day 2: rinse gently with warm salt water after every meal to keep the socket clean. Contact us if you experience increasing pain after 3–4 days, excessive bleeding, or worsening swelling.

Common Questions

Tooth Extraction FAQs

Will an extraction hurt?

With effective local anaesthesia, you should feel pressure and movement but no sharp pain during the procedure. We always check that you are completely comfortable before starting.

What is dry socket?

Dry socket occurs when the blood clot in the extraction socket is lost prematurely — typically from smoking, vigorous rinsing, or suction through a straw. It causes aching, radiating pain starting 2–4 days after extraction. Contact us if you think you have dry socket — we treat it easily with a medicated dressing.

What should I do about replacing the extracted tooth?

We will discuss replacement options at the extraction appointment. The main options are a dental implant, a bridge, or a partial denture. We recommend not leaving a gap long-term, as adjacent teeth drift into the space and bone is lost over time.

Do wisdom teeth always need removing?

Not always. We only recommend wisdom tooth removal if they are causing recurrent infection, pain, damage to adjacent teeth, or cannot be cleaned effectively.
