White Fillings at Park Royal Dental Clinic
White (composite) fillings have become the standard restoration at Park Royal Dental Clinic. Made from a blend of glass particles and resin that can be shaded to match your natural tooth precisely, composite fillings are virtually invisible, structurally sound, and free from the mercury concerns associated with older amalgam restorations.
Beyond treating new cavities, we also offer replacement of existing amalgam fillings for patients who prefer a metal-free mouth or who are bothered by the appearance of dark fillings in their teeth. We carry out amalgam replacement carefully — we will never pressure a patient to replace working amalgam fillings, but we are happy to discuss the options honestly.

Who is white fillings suitable for?
White fillings are appropriate for almost anyone with a cavity that does not require a more extensive restoration. They are the first choice for front teeth where aesthetics matter most, and are widely used in back teeth for small to medium cavities.
For very large restorations in back teeth — particularly in patients who grind heavily — composite can be less durable than a ceramic inlay or crown, and we will discuss the most appropriate option for your specific situation.
Park Royal Dental difference
The quality of a composite filling depends enormously on technique and time. We use an incremental layering approach — placing composite in small layers, each individually shaped and cured — rather than packing the cavity with a single bulk insertion. This reduces shrinkage stress, improves the bond to tooth structure, and allows us to recreate the natural appearance of enamel and dentine.
The result is a filling that genuinely looks like part of the tooth — not a conspicuous grey or overly bright white patch.

After a white filling your tooth may feel slightly sensitive to cold for a few days. This is normal and settles on its own. Avoid very hard foods for 24 hours while the composite fully hardens. If your bite feels high or uncomfortable, call us — a minor adjustment usually resolves this immediately.
White Fillings FAQs
Are white fillings as strong as silver amalgam?
For small to medium cavities, modern composite resins are very strong and highly durable. For very large restorations in molar teeth, ceramic inlays or onlays may offer greater longevity. We always recommend the most appropriate option.
Should I replace my old silver fillings?
Only if they need it. We never recommend replacing functional amalgam fillings purely for cosmetic reasons. However, if a filling is old, leaking, cracked, or causing sensitivity, replacement with composite is entirely appropriate.
Will the white filling match my teeth?
Yes. We have an extensive shade guide and select the shade that most closely matches your natural tooth. In the anterior region we take considerable time to achieve a seamless match.
Can a white filling be done in one appointment?
Yes — most white fillings are completed in a single appointment of 30–60 minutes.
How do I look after a white filling?
Brush twice daily, floss regularly, and attend your regular check-ups. Avoid habits that stress fillings such as nail-biting or chewing ice.
